Poker Pro Beth Shak Launching Shoe Line

Wednesday September 19,2012 : POKER PRO TO LAUNCH HER OWN SHOE LINE (Update)

Beth Shak looks to capitalise on her favourite hobby

Our readers will recall the extraordinary publicity accorded earlier this year to the bitter legal exchanges between poker pro Beth Shak and her former husband and hedge investment exec Daniel Shak as the two tangled over Ms. Shak's extensive (believed to be around 1200 pairs) and valuable (around $1 million) shoe collection.

This week the New York Post took up the subject again to report that Ms. Shak is to forsake much of her poker involvement to pursue her true passion – shoes.

The newspaper reports that she is planning to launch her own upmarket womens’ shoe range.

“My almost-18-year-old daughter wasn’t happy having a mom that traveled and was gambling,” Shak told The Post. “She kept saying, ‘Why don’t you design a shoe line?’ and one day I was like, ‘You know, she’s right.’ ”

The Shak-designed shoes will cost $160 to $190, The NYP reports. She has already designed and manufactured 25 sample pairs in a dozen styles, giving each a woman's name.

Proceeds from the sale of one design – the Elizabeth – will go to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, she said.

One distinguishing trademark on the sole of the shoes will be a blue heart, perhaps borrowing from the exclusive Louboutins practice of colouring the underneath of their heels bright red.

Shak hasn't entirely given up on poker: “I still want to win a World Series of Poker bracelet,” she said. “I will play, but am I going to travel and play the entire circuit? No. I’m actually loving what I’m doing right now.”
