Betting exchange firm Bettor will sponsor the first Northern Irish Derby, tipped to become one of the most prestigious races in the greyhound racing calendar.

The 48-dog competition will be held at Drumbo Park, located on the outskirts of Belfast in June 2011 and will carry prize money of GBP 25 000.

The Northern Irish Derby joins the Scottish Derby and the Puppy Derby in Bettor.com's portfolio of greyhound racing sponsorships.

Jayne Clarke, Bettor PR manager, said: “‘Being as Northern Ireland has been untouched in terms of greyhound Derby’s, and as we have mutual views on the future of greyhound racing as Drumbo Park, this was an opportunity we couldn’t ignore. We hope it will to bring to fans an annual event they’ll want to enjoy for many years to come."

Neil Redmond, General Manager at Drumbo Park, said: “This is a great development for such a young stadium. The Northern Irish Derby will be, by far, the most prestigious greyhound meeting held here.”
