Patent infringement case filed against Cake Poker in U.S. District Court


Posted 2/4/11 : Cake Gaming N.V. – parent company of the Cake Poker Network is the latest target of Dr. Scott W. Lewis and his Nevada-based company 1st Technology.
 
The company has filed a civil action patent infringement case against Cake Gaming N.V. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois this week.
 
The complaint hinges on the infamous US patent 5,564,001 titled "Method and system for interactively transmitting multimedia information over a network which requires a reduced bandwidth".
 
1st Technology have previously used this patent to obtain "royalty/licensing" payments from various gaming operators and has served several online gambling companies with patent infringement lawsuits including Bodog, Sportingbet, Digital Gaming Solutions SA, Costa Rica International Sports, Action Poker Gaming Enterprises, SBG Global, Playsafe Holding AS, eCom Enterprises, Orbis and Digital Gaming Network Limited.
 
The case has been allocated to US District Judge Hon. Robert M. Dow with 1st Technology demanding that the case be heard by a jury; a hearing date is yet to be set.
