The 47th World Series of Poker is now underway at the Rio in Las Vegas, with a strong start from 731 entrants in the first event, a $565 buy-in Casino Employees NLHE competition.
 
When InfoPowa went to press, play on the first day had ended with just 23 survivors due to return to the tables midday Las Vegas time Thursday
 
Spencer Bennet from Sacramento, California held the chip lead at close of play late Wednesday night.
 
Today (Thursday) will also see the first of six starting flights in the $565 buy-in Colossus II, which is expected to pack in competitors anxious for a slice of the guaranteed $7 million prize pool.
 
Last year 22,374 hopefuls registered and the winner took home $638,880. This years winner will receive a guaranteed million dollar pay check.
