Further revelations on the international hack of Las Vegas Sands corporate websites confirm that the intrusion and theft of data was far more serious than it was initially portrayed.

In the latest developments, US media has accessed Securities and Exchange Commission filings by the company which show that the hackers were able to access and steal highly sensitive and personal information on individual customers, including social security and credit card numbers, banking and other personal information and addresses.

Sands is still investigating and does not yet have a full appreciation of the extent of the losses.

Approached by media, a Sands spokesman said that the number of customers compromised by the hack was probably less than 1 percent of those on the database, but he admitted that the numbers ran into " the mid five-figure range.”

Credit where it is due, Sands has moved quickly to ensure clear communication with its players; the company has set up the website SandsInfo.com and a toll-free number through which players can voice their fears and ask questions. The company has also made arrangements for free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services for compromised customers.
