Gamblers Getting High For Charity

Posted 1/4/11: Top execs intend to climb even higher

Veteran industry execs like Nigel Payne of Sportingbet fame and Betfair founder Andrew Black are among a team of ten industry managers who will climb Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, in February this year, raising money for charity and generously sponsored by Sportingbet.

The team has already made a good start, raising GBP32 000 of the GBP50 000 it set for itself as a fund-raising target.  The money will go to three charities, the Israel Sport Centre for the Disabled; Breast Cancer Care and the Injured Jockey's Fund.

Other online gambling corporates like William Hill, Party Gaming, bet365 and Betfair have been generous in pledging donations.

Sportingbet was in the news in the racing sector this week as well, announcing that it is to sponsor the Queen Mother Champion Chase, an important element in the Cheltenham Festival, over the next five years. The agreement will see an investment of GBP2 million in prize monies.
