Monday October 27,2014 :  CHINA LOTTERIES BOOMING

Sales, a proportion of them online, dwarf California state lottery.

China's two main official lotteries, the Welfare Lottery and the Sports Lottery are garnering billions for local and national government and soared during 2013, reports the publication China.org.

Total sales reached $49 billion in 2013 and are set to exceed that in 2014, China.org reports, observing that last year the Sports Lottery delivered sales worth $21.3 billion, and the Welfare Lottery $27.7 billion, year-on-year increases of 20.2 percent and 16.9 percent respectively.

Compare that with global lottery sales growth last year of 4.9 percent, and with the 13 percent rise in sales to $5 billion achieved in 2013 by the California state lottery.

After the deduction of outgoings, national and local governments in China split lottery income 50/50, with social spending the guiding imperative on expenditure priorities.
