Coy Roger Lamm Sentenced in Virgina SportsBetting Case

To probation, home confinement and a $100 000 forfeiture
 
Former Roanoke restaurant owner Coy Roger Lamm (46) was sentenced to two and a half years probation and one year of home confinement in a US District Court this week.
 
Lamm pleaded guilty earlier this year to the federal felony offense of running a multimillion-dollar sports gambling ring, as well as failing to pay excise taxes on the wagers.
 
The former eatery owner, hired Costa Rican programmer Max Alexander Krinberg to build the Playweewa.com website which accepted bets on football, basketball, golf and NASCAR.
 
Authorities caught on to the activity during a routine check on alcohol violations at local restaurants.  When they noticed money changing hands, an in-depth investigation followed.
 
Ironically, Lamm avoided jail and received a reduced sentence by dismantling the very enterprise that he built.
 
In mitigation of sentence, Lamm's legal counsel pointed out that Lamm had provided investigators with administrative access to the website, had successfully recorded a damning conversation with the developer and had provided information on his associates and their involvement in the enterprise.
