British government department denies rumours of a switch in ministerial responsibilities

The British government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport has denied rumours circulating earlier this week that ministerial responsibility for the UK Gambling Commission will be switched to another ministry following this year's Olympic Games.

Rumour had it that the diversity of interests falling under the Gambling Commission, allied to reports that relations between the Commission and the DCMS have at times been strained, were the motivation for placing the Commission under the control of some other – unidentified – government ministry.

The rumour triggered speculation that the Commission's new positioning might be the Home Office, where its predecessor resided, or perhaps the Treasury in view of the tax implications of the Commission's activities.
