Doc Sands Wins WPT Super High Roller

Friday May 24,2013 : JUST WHAT THE (POKER) DOCTOR ORDERED!

Seven-figure prize for Dave ‘Doc' Sands in World Poker Tour Championship Super High Roller

The $100,000 buy-in World Poker Tour World Championship Super High Roller event is in the books, with poker pro Dave Doc Sands celebrating a win worth $1,023,750….his second career seven-figure payday.

Only the top three finishers cashed in this event, because the buy-in was just too rich for all but 21 players, most of them seasoned pros.

With the World Series of Poker just ahead, it is also possible that many players are saving their shekels for entries in that series of prestigious big-money competitions.

Going into the final table Jim Courtney held the lead with 1,690,000, chased by Joseph Cheong (1,646,000), Steven Silverman (1,339,000), David Sands (1,286,000), Andrew Robl (169,000) and Daniel Perper (164,000).

The three who would cash was decided when Courtney was eliminated at fourth by Sands, leaving Cheong, Sands and Perper still in the running. Just thirty hands later Perper was bundled out in third place for $409,500, leaving Cheong and Sands facing each other in the heads up, with the latter holding a 3 to 1 chip lead that proved to be unassailable.

A few hands later it was all over, with Sands claiming the main prize and Cheong taking home a still-impressive runner-up prize of $614,250

This is the second major tournament win for Sands; back in January this year he entered the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and went on to finish second to Scott Seiver, taking home a second placing $1,259,320.
