Swedish Gambling Association Becomes Member of EGBA

Wednesday November 11,2015 : EGBA WELCOMES SWEDISH GAMBLING ASSOCIATION

BOS wants to be part of the bigger picture.

The Swedish online gambling trade association, Branschforeningen for Onlinespel (BOS), has become an affiliate member of the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA).

“For many years, we have been following the important work of the EGBA in Brussels,” said Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS. “If we are to achieve full effect in the EU-related work we have to muster our forces, and this is where EGBA comes into play.

“Just like BOS unites many actors in Sweden, EGBA unites many under the EU-canopy.”

Sweden has fallen foul of the European Commission in terms of compliance with EU law (see previous InfoPowa reports) and has been referred by the Commission to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

“With our affiliated membership, we want to pull our weight, to the benefit of the bigger picture but also the national gambling market in our own Swedish jurisdiction,” Hoffstedt added.

“After previously welcoming the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA), the EGBA is pleased to be joined by our second affiliate member association,” commented Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA. “It shows the importance of working together to ensure that Europe moves towards an attractive regulated market with high consumer protection standards.”

Founded in 2012, BOS represents EU license-holding companies that operate on the Swedish market.

Currently, BOS has 18 members which include Betfair, Unibet, Betsson, Mr Green & Co. and Paf.

BOS associated members are Bet365, Bonnier Gaming, Evolution Gaming, Pokerstars, William Hill, Net Entertainment, Nyx Gaming, Ladbrokes, Prima Network, ComeOn, Gamesys, Cherry and Leo Vegas.
