2012 WSOP Event 38

Monday June 25, 2012 :  2012 WSOP Event 38

With this year's World Series of Poker now almost two-thirds complete, three more winners’ bracelets were claimed as the weekend began, with Dung Nguyen winning event 38, Jan-Peter Jachtmann event 39 and Ronnie Bardah number 40.

Nguyen revealed after his victory in the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em competition that he had not planned on joining the 2,533 other entrants, but had been persuaded to do so by a friend who ponied up half the buy-in.

It turned out to be a profitable decision, delivering Nguyen's first bracelet and main prize money of $607,200 the reward.

Nguyen faced a final table that included some inspiring names: Theo Tran, Bahman Jahanguiri, Blair Hinkle, David Pham, Kristijonas Andrulis, Zachary Korik, Jeffrey Manza and Tyler Patterson.

When Bahman Jahanguiri was dismissed in third place for $267,241 the scene was set for a heads up pitting Nguyen against experienced WSOP veteran Theo Tran, but Nguyen maintained a chip lead throughout and proved unbeatable, sending Tran to the cashier and a runner up pay-out of $377,565.

For Tran it was another disappointment; the pro has made it to four final tables at previous WSOP tournaments, ending up as runner up at two of them…and he still has not achieved bracelet status.
