Saturday December 7,2013 : FEDERAL AGENTS BUST FLORIDA ONLINE SPORTS BETTING RING

Undercover sting investigations lasted a year and involved placing $160,000 in bets.

US federal enforcement authorities have struck again, busting a large online sports betting operation in the state of Florida under the code name Operation Gotham City.

7 individuals were arrested and charged with various federal offences Friday, with another 5 being sought.

Federal agents identified 52-year-old Adam Green as the principal defendant, held on a bond of $750,000, but declined to elaborate further until all the arrest warrants have been executed.

However, they disclosed that the enforcement action included "sting" bets of $160,000, took place across five different states and involved Central American investigations into money laundering through several banks, suggesting a Costa Rica connection.

Other ring members who have been identified include Eric Spinosa (36), Emilio Colon (32), Jordan Brown (24), Sean Barnes (34), Mark Ruggiero (42) and Rehan Kazi (45).
