Sunday October 14,2012 :  FIVE ONLINE GAMBLING VENUES BUST IN BORNEO

67 computers seized and 23 arrested in police sweep

Borneo police raided five premises alleged to have been offering online gambling facilities over the weekend, arresting 23 persons and seizing 67 computers and other items of evidential value.

14 members of the D7 Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism Unit raided two venues in Medan Jaya and another in Taman Li Hua in Bintulu on Friday, before raiding two more premises at Taman Permai Barat in Sibu on Saturday.

All five premises were allegedly masquerading as cyber cafes whilst covertly offering online gambling services to customers, reports the Borneo Post.

D7 officer-in-charge DSP Ahmad Asri Jamaluddin said both customers and workers were among those arrested, and would be charged under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

He revealed that the fronts of the cafes had been securely locked and monitored with close-circuit television (CCTV) to screen anyone attempting to enter.

“Only regular customers are allowed to enter, and players are often provided with free food and drinks to keep them happy, and get them to play longer,” he added.
