Monday September 3, 2012 : GERMAN SPORTS BETTING LICENCE DEADLINE EXTENDED (Update)
Interstate Treaty on Gambling allows for 20 private operator licences
According to law firm Olswang, the deadline of September 4, 2012 for the application of the twenty available German sportsbetting licences has been extended until September 12, 2012 while the new Government of the state of Schleswig-Holstein takes steps to repeal the state's local gambling act in order to join the new German Interstate Treaty on Gambling (ITG) which entered into force on July 1, 2012.
Under the new ITG, 20 licences for online sports betting can be granted to private operators, a process which the competent authority, the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Hesse, is said to have already begun.
The Northern-most State of Schleswig Holstein has already awarded 12 sports betting licences, Olswang says there are currently another 44 applications for a Schleswig-Holstein licence pending: 22 for sports betting and 22 for online casino games.
