GPL Playoffs and Final In Las Vegas

GLOBAL POKER LEAGUE PLAY-OFFS AND FINAL WILL TAKE PLACE IN LAS VEGAS.

Changes announced by organiser Alex Dreyfus.

The inaugural Global Poker League series is now well into its stride, with the final play-offs and the final championships scheduled for November 29 and 30, and December 1 respectively….but both elements will now be held in Las Vegas, according to organiser Alex Dreyfus.

The original plan was to hold the play-offs in San Diego as part of TwitchCon, a major streaming conference led by Twitch, while the finals were scheduled to take place in London at Wembley Stadium, but Dreyfus has since concluded that there is little merit in running GPL events against other popular poker tournament series on the international calendar.

"In this case, the return of our schedule was set to bump up against EPT Barcelona, WCOOP, and Burning Man," Dreyfus told Poker News this week.

"When we went up against SCOOP during the spring we were getting smashed, so we have to be careful."

Dreyfus summarised the first outing of his ambitious GPL project, commenting:

"Weve pulled it off so far. We started with an idea and weve now delivered a draft of 12 teams consisting of the best poker players in the world. Weve delivered online events, and weve delivered live events with the Cube and a TV studio in Las Vegas. All of this, we delivered in good and bad ways. However we delivered, and weve built the foundation of the league."
