Illinois ackowledges that online gambling is inevitable

Friday March 28, 2014 :  ILLINOIS TO RESOLVE LAND CASINO ISSUES BEFORE MULLING ONLINE GAMBLING LEGALISATION

State Senate president ackowledges that online gambling is inevitable…but not right now.

Illinois pro-online gambling state senator John Cullerton said in a television interview on the state budget this week that whilst the legalization of online gambling in the state is inevitable, it will not be addressed until questions around the expansion of land gambling in the state have been resolved.

Cullerton, who is president of the state Senate, said of internet gambling prospects:

“It’s something that’s going to be here. There’s three states that have it. I think, though, that we cannot take that issue up until we resolve whether or not we’re going to have new [land] casinos in Illinois and that again is very difficult to predict.”

The issue of land casino expansion in Illinois has been plagued by the conflicting interests of groups that include those totally opposed to gambling, land casino interests and horse racing organisations and companies. The state governor is also making his support conditional on resolving state pension issues.
