Police CrackDown on Indian Gambling Advertising

POLICE  CRACKDOWN ON INDIAN ONLINE GAMBLING ADVERTISING PROPOSED

Search engines and social media publishers to be asked to eschew advertising and the publication of promotional posts.

City police in Hyderabad, India have proposed the unusual tactic of trying to persuade online social networking and search engines to discourage promotional posts and advertisements pushing participation in online gambling.

The proposal has not yet been accepted by city government, but is being considered according to local media reports.

The police cited fears that young people could become addicted to this form of entertainment as their reason for concern, and revealed they have been monitoring these sources of information as part of a general enforcement exercise targeting illegal gambling.
