John Campos cleared to plead guilty to Black Friday misdemeanour

4/19/2012 : COURT TO ACCEPT GUILTY PLEA FROM INTERNET GAMBLING PAYMENT PROCESSOR (Update)

John Campos cleared to plead guilty to Black Friday misdemeanour

US District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, who earlier his month required Black Friday prosecutors to justify accepting a guilty plea from defendant payment processor John Campos, has considered their explanations and given his permission for the plea to be entered, reports Bloomberg News.

Campos was one of the defendants facing criminal charges arising from his handling of transactions for Pokerstars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.

Another Black Friday defendant, Brent Beckley (31), faces sentencing this week after entering a guilty plea in December. In pleading guilty, Beckley admitted to the court: “I knew that it was illegal to accept credit cards from players to gamble on the Internet. I knew it was illegal to deceive the banks in this way.”

He and his colleagues hatched an elaborate scheme to trick American banks into processing Absolute Poker deposits and cashouts by disguising transactions as golf balls, jewelry and other items.
