Authorities make good on a threat to crack down on illegal online sports betting
 
South Korean police in the Gyeongi province have added emphasis to earlier threats of action against illegal internet sports betting sites by launching a raid on an allegedly illegal online casino operator.
 
The police reported the arrest of 13 individuals connected with the enterprise, and revealed that with the cooperation of Interpol they are currently on the trail of a further 10 miscreants who fled the country.
 
Police spokesman Shim Jae-hoon accused the ring of putting up and promoting over 200 websites since 2011 in a statement to the publication Global Post, and confirmed allegations earlier this week by the Korean Sports Promotion Foundation that illegal sports betting was growing due to the accessibility via mobile channels that modern technology has created
