Understaffed Police battle to keep a lid on mobile gambling

Authorities in the South East Korean industrial city of Ulsan have indicted an operator alleged to have been running an illegal online gambling operation that offered game play on 79 tablet devices installed with gambling apps.

The woman, simply identified as “Yoo”, registered her business as an internet cafe but was found to be selling game points to customers who then used the tablets to gamble on.

“App room owners make ill use of tablet PCs as they are easier to hide than PCs during police searches”, Police authorities said.  “As online gambling is rampant nationwide, we will continue the crackdown against illegal app rooms.”
