LADBROKES IN IRELAND REPORT SMALL DECLINE IN PROFITS

Ladbrokes Holdings' impressive presence in Northern Ireland through subsidiary Northwest Bookmakers was in the BBC news over the weekend after reporting on its performance through 2010.
 
The bookmaker, which holds 24 percent of Northern Ireland betting shop licenses, reported a pre-tax profit GBP 6.4 million, down slightly on 2009, on turnover of GBP 265 million (FY 2009: GBP 262 million).
 
Management reported that the average bet placed in 2010 was GBP 9.22, down 11p from the year before.
 
Restructuring and normal attrition reduced the workforce to 457 from 470 at the start of the year.
 
Northwest Bookmakers was created in 2008 when Ladbrokes bought the Eastwood chain, merging it with its existing shops.
