Chinese Gambling Affiliate Busted By Police

Monday August 27,2012 : AMBITIOUS ONLINE GAMBLING AFFILIATE BUSTED BY VIETNAM POLICE

Ingenious scheme linked Vietnamese and Chinese internet punters to a Cambodian gambling website

A 42-year-old Vietnamese woman, Lam Manh Nhi, developed an ambitious technological solution to the problem of connecting keen regional punters with an online gambling site operated by a land casino in neighbouring Cambodia, but enforcement officials equally alert to the possibilities tracked her down, reports Talk Vietnam.com.

The publication quotes from a report in the English language newspaper Tuoi Tre News, which reported two days ago that Lam Manh Nhi and five associates had been arrested at four online gambling contact points in Ho Chi Minh City.

The arrests were the result of a three month technical investigation by enforcement officials who tracked an unusually high number of IP addresses accessing a website offering online gambling from a casino in Cambodia.

Lam Manh Nhi was the first to be picked up, collaborating with police in the arrest of five associates the next day.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security said the investigation had exposed an ambitious scheme in which Lam Manh Nhi had set up a series of communication relays across southwestern Tay Ninh province to create a telecommunication system between her ring and the Cambodian casino. Nhi worked as an agent and was paid by the casino.

Police allege that she was also facilitating online gambling services for Chinese internet gamblers, having set up a similar system in the northern Quang Ninh Province to receive signals from the Cambodian casino and transmit these to China.

Police named Nhi's associates as Ho Thi Kim Cuc (48), Le Van Ngoi (29), Duong Van Son (43), Phan To Ha (43), and Le Thi Nga (52), all of Ho Chi Minh City, and said that investigations are continuing.
