New Gambling legalization For Slovenia

Thursday October 31,2013 : SLOVENIA PLANS NEW GAMBLING LEGALIXATION

New Gaming Act will bring both online and land gambling under a regulator responsible to the Finance Ministry

Slovenian land and online gambling will be regulated under a new Gaming Act overseen by a regulator reporting to the Finance Ministry from next year.

The government has, as a member of the EU, taken the first mandatory steps in notifying the European Commission of its intentions and presenting a draft proposal for comment.

Local media reports indicate that the proposal is likely to ensure that the state retains the national lottery, but that five year licenses – one for sports betting and up to 30 for casino gaming – will be made available for suitable applicants.

The draft reportedly contains the usual range of punitive measures to guard against unlicensed operators, including heavy fines, restrictions on financial transactions with illegal sites, and ISP-blocking as ordered by the regulator.
