Lottery : $25 million won on wrong ticket

Saturday October 8, 2011 : LOTTERY CLERK'S LUCKY SLIP

$25 million won on "wrong" ticket

A Lithonia, Georgia, woman is $25 million richer this week, and it's all down to the freakish good luck of a store clerk's screw-up.

The UPI news agency reports that Kathy Scruggs (44) of Lithonia, claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters.

She revealed that her massive win was initially generated by a mistake; she asked the clerk at the convenience store where she bought her ticket for a Mega Millions ticket, but she was instead given a Powerball ticket for the September 14 draw.  And it won.

Scruggs said that she decided to go with the clerk's error and bought both Powerball and Mega Millions tickets…and the Powerball provided that once-in-a-lifetime win on numbers 16-41-42-50-59 and Powerball 5.
