Police and Communications Commission team up to combat illegal betting syndicates

Draconian measures have been instituted by the Malaysian authorities over the Euro 2012 football competition period due to kick off this weekend.

In joint cooperation with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Police authorities will bar its residents from accessing all online betting websites, including online social sites offering betting.

Bukit Aman Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice principal assistant director Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said police were carrying out surveillance with the help of the MCMC following success in curbing such activities during the 2010 World Cup, reported the Malaysian Star.

"MCMC will monitor and prevent access to such websites. Once MCMC identifies any website involved in betting activities, such websites will be barred," Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said.
