Nevada Messenger Betting Bill
Wednesday April 8,2015 : ‘MESSENGER BETTING' BILL STILL LIVE IN NEVADA SENATE
Hearing last week considered the implications of permitting persons outside the state to use Nevada sports betting facilities.
Ensuring the safety of US sports bettors is the claimed motivation behind HB 443, a bill submitted earlier this year in Nevada which seeks to legalise so-called "messenger betting" by punters outside the borders of Nevada, a practice currently regarded as unlawful in the state.
Nevada is one of only four US states permitted to accept sports betting wagers.
The new bill, which proposes allowing Nevada-licensed gambling businesses to network their services through external partners, was the subject of hearings last week in the state Senate and appears to be progressing.
Perhaps more importantly for the state, the introduction of this extension of activity has the potential to boost revenues by widening the market.
The supporters of HB443 have been careful to ensure that the state regulator, along with business concerns, has been involved in the construction of the bill, which should minimise intrastate opposition to its passage.
