$100,000 win for top swimmer

The world's top Olympian swimming champ, Michael Phelps, again displayed his talents at the poker table this week by winning $100,000 playing Texas Hold'em at Caesars in Las Vegas.

Phelps was in the gambling city with friends after a holiday break in the Maldives, the entertainment publication TMZ.com reported, publishing pictures of Phelps playing and reporting that he went on to spend the night clubbing.

It was not the first time that the Olympian has shown an interest in poker; on previous visits he has competed and socialised with legends in the game like Doyle Brunson.

Phelps, who holds a record 22 Olympic medals – 18 of them gold – recently announced his retirement from swimming.
