MISSISSIPPI INTERNET GAMBLING BILL KILLED IN COMMITTEE

03/12/2012 :  MISSISSIPPI INTERNET GAMBLING BILL KILLED IN COMMITTEE (Update)

Rep. Moak's legalization bill bites the dust

The online gambling bill introduced to the Mississippi Legislature barely a month back by Rep. Bobby Moak has failed to make it past the House committee stages and must be considered a non-starter for the present.

Moak's HB 1373, the Mississippi Lawful Internet Gaming Act of 2012 envisioned an intrastate system through which applicants were required to lodge a non-refundable deposit of $100 000 to be considered for a licence costing $200,000, with annual renewals of $100,000, plus further disbursements of $100,000 to the Mississippi Gaming Commission and the State General Fund.

The heavy costs didn't end there, either – licensees would have been expected to pay 5 percent of gross revenues in taxes!
