According to the sportsbetting guys and people who like gambling on sports it just didn’t feel like spring without Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees. Thanks to the #coronavirus , the start of the 2020 regular Baseball season was delayed until this Thursday 7/23/2020, when the New York Yankees will visit the defending champion Washington Nationals. First pitch is at 7:08 PM ET on ESPN and Bovada will be taking all sportsbetting action. Gerrit Cole will take the mound for New York opposite Max Scherzer in a battle of elite right-handers.
Season Opener Starting nearly four months later than expected, the coronavirus-shortened 2020 MLB season begins this Thursday (7:08 PM ET, ESPN) when Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees visit Max Scherzer and the defending World Series champions, the Washington Nationals. Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.
Cole will be making his debut for the Yankees after signing a nine-year, $324-million baseball contract during the off season – a record amount for any major league pitcher. The three-time All-Star led the majors last year with 326 strikeouts for the Houston Astros, and led the American League with a 2.50 ERA. This will be Cole’s first game against the Nationals since the 2019 World Series, where he took the loss in Game 1 before rebounding in Game 5.
Scherzer (2.92 ERA, 243 K) is a three-time Cy Young Winner, including his 2016 and 2017 seasons with Washington. He has yet to face New York since leaving the Detroit Tigers after the 2014 campaign – but he did get the win over Cole and the Astros in last year’s World Series opener. Scherzer was scratched from Game 5 due to neck spasms.
