24-year-old professional poker player Iva Lazarova has defeated a 320-entry field to become the first ever female MPN Poker Tour champion, taking home the MPNPT Sunny Beach trophy and €26,900 following a series of deals between the last four players. Lazarova’s victory was the culmination of an insane roller coaster of a tournament, which saw her all in (behind!) for half a big blind on the bubble, before returning to take home the coveted MPNPT trophy and the biggest win of her career so far.
Iva Lazarova Comes Back from the Dead to Win MPN Poker Tour Sunny Beach Main Event and €26,900
Thirteen players returned to the Platinum Casino in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria for the final day of the €500 + €50 NLH Main Event. Grosvenor Poker qualifier Robert Bostock was the chip leader on 2,343,000 – double the stack of the next man – and proceeded to quickly knock out four players; by the time they reached the nine-handed final table, Bostock was in possession of over a third of the chips in play.
Tihomir Ochkov was the first to hit the rail, moving in with A-8 against Iva Lazarova’s pocket tens and never coming out again. He proceeded directly to the Fish Party table at the other end of the room, eager to keep the action going and give himself a shot at winning a poker package to MPNPT Malta or some MPNPT branded goodies. Ochkov was quickly joined at the cage by Galin Panayotov in eight place; Martin Nikolov and Simeon Spasov soon followed in seventh and sixth places respectively.
Bostock’s chip lead soon evaporated when he doubled up Iva Lazarova, calling her 12BB A-4 shove with K-T in the big blind. A few hands later, Bostock doubled Lazarova up again, propelling her into the chip lead with over 3 million and leaving Bostock struggling on a 720k short stack.
Lazarova increased her chip lead knocking out Philipp Anger in fifth place, spiking an ace against his pocket eights to send him to the rail. Lazarova was now in possession of half the chips in play.
Robert Bostock was eliminated in fourth place on a K-T vs. K-Q bad beat; after over an hour three-way, Dmitri Fomitsa busted out in third place to Lazarova; despite this, Lazarova went into the heads up with a 2:1 chip disadvantage against Boris Yosifov. After around 40 minutes of back and forth, Lazarova had moved into the lead. Eventually, she set Yosifov in with A-3 from the button. Yosifov called with K-7, failed to spike and busted out in second place. Lazarova thus found herself the last woman standing, and was duly crowned our glorious champion at MPNPT Sunny Beach.
Beyond the Main Event, the MPNPT Platinum Poker Cup was taken down by Emil Kunev for €4,775 in a three-way chop, while the MPNPT Doubles event was won by Mati Pirn and Maili Tannbaum who took home €1,216 between them. The MPNPT Turbo Rebuy was won by Joel Holmberg for €2,706.
As players continue to party into the early hours, all that remains is to reflect on the glorious success that was MPNPT Sunny Beach, while looking forward to the next one – MPNPT at the €1 million guaranteed Battle of Malta, 26-31 October. Until then, it’s goodnight from Sunny Beach, and happy travels! Win a Free satellite seat to this event now.
