NEVADA ADOPTS INTERSTATE COMPACTS LAW

Friday April 12, 2013 : NEVADA ADOPTS INTERSTATE COMPACTS LAW

Governor signs empowerment to make interstate deals into state law

The publication International Law Office reports that Nevada governor Brian Sandoval has signed into the state law books new legalization that empowers him to negotiate interstate compacts on online poker, which Nevada legalised last year.

The finalisation of the law is significant because it lays the groundwork for deals with other states that have legalised online poker, making it possible to combine player pools and thus increase player liquidity and the chances of commercial success.

AB114 enables and authorises arrangements with other states that legalise interstate online poker…and such compacts can be entered into without first obtaining the approval of federal authorities.

The US Department of Justice still holds that sports betting is illegal under the Interstate Wire Act of 1961 and there has been no move to repeal or amend the supporting Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which disrupts ‘illegal' online gambling financial transactions and presents a possible area of future confusion for financial institutions like the banks.
