CHICAGO GRINDER WINS SCOOP MAIN EVENT POKER COMPETITION

Tuesday May 22, 2012 :  CHICAGO GRINDER WINS SCOOP MAIN EVENT POKER COMPETITION

The US situation has forced Nick Grippo to move to Costa Rica, but that enabled him to win big this week

Nick Grippo, an online poker pro from Chicago, had to move to Costa Rica in order to keep playing after Black Friday, but the move enabled him to play in the main event of the Pokerstars Spring Championship of Online Poker over the weekend, and on Monday he emerged victorious, taking home the title, an expensive watch and $798,675 in prize money.

The $10,300 buy-in NLHE event attracted 517 players, among them internet aces like Dan Cates, Sorel Mizzi, Jon Aguiar, Mickey Petersen, Andre Akkari and Matt Frankland, but none made the final table, which Grippo, playing under the handle ‘GripDsNutz', entered around the middle of the pack.

He didn't stay down there for long, however, playing aggressively to take the chip lead early in the game and dominating play from there on in.

By the time play reach the three handed stage it was Grippo facing a Canadian player using the handle ‘sp00led' and a Polish player with the internet name ‘sosickPL'.  The trio decided on an even three-way chop after a few hands of action, splitting the 2.2 million on the table and guaranteeing each $718,675 whilst leaving $80,000 for the winner.

Grippo went on to best his two opponents and claim the main prize.
