FULL TILT LAUNCHES ONYX CUP POKER SERIES

Posted 3/15/11 : Six high stakes live tournaments feature in online poker site's latest initiative

The internet poker provider Full Tilt Poker is expanding further into the live environment with a new series of tournaments under the banner The Onyx Cup.

The series will be held at locations around the globe, and will feature six high-stakes live tournaments starting in May in Las Vegas, with five preliminary NLHE events with big bankroll buy-ins that range between $100,000 and $300,000, followed by a Grand Finale that will cost $250,000 to enter, generating a massive prize pool which Full Tilt will augment by a million dollars.

The intent is to bring major players into confrontation, creating a headline-grabbing and exciting series of tourneys with big money rewards. More modest players will also have an opportunity to tangle with the giants, provided they enjoy success in a slew of supporting qualifiers run online by the poker company.

Among those promoting the Onyx Cup, which will be broadcast in over 40 nations, are top players like Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel and Tom Dwan.
