Friday September 20 ,2013 : OPAP'S NEW OWNERS PRIORITISE ONLINE OPERATIONS
Greek monopoly will capitalise on an authorisation it has held since 2000.
Emma Delta, the conglomerate that has negotiated ownership of the Greek gambling monopoly OPAP, intends to prioritise the launch of online gambling under an authority the company has held since the year 2000 but not hitherto leveraged.
Emma Delta will formally complete its acquisition of the controlling 33 percent stake in OPAP on October 11 with the payment of Euros 622 million to the Greek state privatisation fund TAIPED, reports Ekathimerini.com.
Company spokesmen told the newspaper that the Greek government will have to clarify the status of the temporary licenses it issued in the past, which Emma Delta claims dilute the monopoly in games of chance. The licenses, issued to several major online gambling companies that have threatened litigation allow for the abuse of license holders’ rights in the transfer of rights to third parties, ED claims.
