Kidney Foundation lodges complaints

Another Paddy Power advertisement found itself under scrutiny by the UK Advertising Standards Authority this week, who found in favour of the bookmaker this time around.

The radio ad made tongue in cheek references to the well-known phrase "I'd give my right arm…" instead introducing a fictional character named Jack Cooper who wrote on the Paddy Power Facebook wall "I'll give you anything for a decent offer Paddy!" We hear you Jack! Anything eh? Well, just chuck us a kidney and in return we'll give you … this beauty for the golf".

The complaint submitted by the Kidney Wales Foundation and 26 members of the public for being offensive and likely to cause distress, in particular to kidney dialysis patients, transplant patients and their loved ones was not upheld as the ASA deemed the ad would be taken in the spirit in which it came across as irreverent and light-hearted.
