Pennsylvania Looking at Legal DFS

Monday, March 21, 2016 :  PENNSYLVANIA STATE SENATOR STARTS DAILY FANTASY SPORTS REGULATORY PROCESS

Philadelphia senator Anthony Williams is looking for co-sponsorship support for a new bill.

If Philadelphia state senator Anthony Williams has his way Pennsylvania could be joining the more than two dozen states currently mulling regulatory legalization on daily fantasy sports.

Local media reports over the weekend are that the senator has been circulating a memo among fellow lawmakers asking for their support for a measure that will classify DFS as a game of skill, placing it outside state laws on gambling.

Sen. Williams' proposal could be introduced by mid-April, and is expected to require DFS website operators to register with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and remit taxes based on gross gaming revenue earned from players resident in the state.

The bill may mirror Virginia’s recent successful legalization, according to one report, which notes that in his memo Williams disclosed an intention to follow Virginia's lead.
