Peter Kings Gambling Bill Gaining No Support

Saturday August 3,2013 : LITTLE SUPPORT FOR FEDERAL ONLINE GAMBLING SOLUTION SO FAR

As the politicians head off for the holidays, there are few co-sponsors for the King legalization bill

Representative Peter King's proposed federal bill seeking to legalise all forms of online gambling with the exception of sports betting does not appear to be achieving much traction more than two months since its introduction.

With politicians heading out of Washington for the summer recess, King and his sole supporter thus far, Massachusetts Democrat Michael Capuano, tried to drum up support for the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, writing to fellow Congressman:

“With states approaching this issue piecemeal, it can lead to conflicting and inconsistent laws from state-to-state, varying levels of consumer protection, and a perverse incentive for a race-to-the-bottom on standards to attract gaming operators and revenues,” and urging them to co-sponsor the measure.

It seems unlikely that sufficient numbers will do so on their return to legislative business after the recess.
