Online poker giant announces Brazilian Series of Poker

The Brazilian Series of Poker has been launched by Pokerstars, which clearly has ambitions in this large and potentially lucrative South American market.

After spending the last several years expanding its calendar around the world, the online poker giant announced Wednesday that it is now sponsoring the Brazilian tour.

The first sponsored event kicks off in just a few weeks in São Paulo, with the main event running between July 26 and 31 at the Holiday Inn, Parque Anhembi. Satellites are available now on PokerStars.

David Carrion, Director for Live operations in Latin America, said, “We expect to attract bigger tournament fields by offering more chances to qualify online for free, and therefore increasing participation from many more enthusiasts of the sport.”

In addition to the São Paulo stop, the BSOP will visit Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza and Balneário Camboriú.
