Pokerstars Venture onto Facebook Poker App

Venture onto social gaming site is part of a number of “on-going research and development efforts."
 
Pokerstars has put a toe in the social gaming waters on Facebook by introducing a Pokerstars.net free-play poker app.
 
Still in restricted ‘existing players only' beta mode, the Flash-powered app is an extension to the pokerstars freeplay dot.net site on the social media platform.
 
The app includes experience points and escalating levels, challenges and achievements, leader boards and virtual merchandise, all basics for effective social gaming operations.
 
It offers an access to an online store where players can buy virtual currency and chips, along with merchandise for use at the virtual tables in conjunction with the user's presence/avatar.
 
There are conventional social gaming communication and bragging rights features, all accessible within the game, and virtual chip transfers can be made by players who want to ‘gift' online friends.
 
Fast fold poker in the form of the company's highly popular Zoom! product is available, as are other standard Pokerstars features, tournaments and game types.
 
A company spokesman said Tuesday that the new venture into social gaming was just one of a range of strategic products that the company was considering, researching and developing.
