Pokerstars Servers Crash On Tuesday 2/21/12

02/22/2012 : POKERSTARS SERVER CRASH COULD BE EXPENSIVE
 
Over 70 000 players on-site when servers malfunctioned and many will need to be compensated
 
Tuesday was a bad day for the world's largest and most successful online poker enterprise PokerStars, where the servers crashed, allegedly whilst over 70 000 players around the planet were active on the site.
 
It is understood that the drop in service, which caught many players in mid-game, occurred early evening GMT, temporarily shutting them out and making it impossible to access hand histories and other information and facilities. The company's new iPad service was also impacted.
 
PokerStars contacted the players concerned in an email titled "Server Issues" which admitted that the company was "….currently experiencing some problems with players logging in, creating accounts, and accessing the cashier, among others."
 
The communication assured players that PokerStars was reviewing the problem and hoped to have it sorted out quickly, with refunds paid to layers ‘materially' prejudiced by the failure.
 
Pokerstars urged all affected players to email the company with details at ‘support@pokerstars.com'
 
Server failures are not unknown at major online poker sites, and there is usually provision for this occurrence in the T&Cs. Posters on the popular poker forum twoplustwo speculated today that refunds would be in proportion to individual chip stacks, tournament buy ins and the number of players left on the virtual tables when the service was interrupted.
