Bwin.Party Blocked in Romania
Wednesday October 14,2015 : ROMANIAN HASSLES FOR BWIN.PARTY
Company has yet to comment on continued blacklisting despite millions paid in back taxes.
Online gambling group Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment remained silent Tuesday as unsourced reports of hassles with the Romanian gambling authorities circulated in online media.
The reports claim that despite coughing up some Euro 8 million in back taxes and being awarded provisional licensing approval, Bwin remains on Romania's blacklist, allegedly because it failed to halt its activities in the country whilst its licence application was processed.
The blacklisting apparently includes the company's PartyPoker and PartyCasino brands.
Romania is squeezing online gambling companies keen to operate in the Eastern European nation by demanding back taxes for the period they have operated in the country as a prerequisite to granting licensing for future activity, and figures as high as Euro 90 million have been estimated in unconfirmed reports that suggest Bet365, Pokerstars and Sportingbet could be impacted.
