Wednesday September 19,2012 : LOCAL BUSINESSMAN WINS MACAU POKER CUP

Winner entered through a Pokerstars satellite

The Pokerstars Macau Poker Cup Championship 2012 was concluded this week with a resounding main event win for local businessman Rui Chen (37), who entered the HKD 20,000 buy-in competition through a HKD 1,100 Pokerstars satellite, boosting his bank balance by HKD $1,108,500 (around US$ 143,000) after a tense 12 hour final table.

“The past few years have seen a huge development for poker in China,” said Chen. "Poker is suited for the Chinese because we are particularly good at mind games.”

The 37-year-old businessman faced a final table that comprised Yosuke Sekiya, Wenlong Jin, Sunny Jung, Kevin Kung, Jessica Ngu, Lisi Wei, Ryan Hong and Robert Streatfield.

This culminated in a heads up between Chen and Japanese player Yosuke Sekiya, with Chen holding a 3 to 2 chip advantage. Despite a plucky showing, the cards were not with the Japanese ace, and he was sent to the cashier and a second placing reward of HKD 759,000.
