15 arrested as Sarawak police raid suspected online gambling venue.

Malaysian police in the Sarawak province have arrested 15 people and seized 67 computers and documentary evidence in a raid on a suspected online gambling venue in Permyjaya near the small city of Miri.

The Borneo Post newspaper reports that those arrested in the late night raid included both employees and punters, aged between 28 and 68 years.

In related news, police in South Korea were also active, reporting the arrests of six people on online gambling charges in Bucheon this week.

A police spokesman told the Yonhap news agency that the illegal gambling ring handled wagering worth Won 197 billion (around US$190 million) over the period mid-2010 to March 2013 according to documentary evidence seized in police raids.

Online wagering was carried out through an offshore website with servers in the Philippines, which facilitated online gambling for around 300 regular punters using internet cafe-style establishments.

The spokesman claimed that the enterprise employed 122 people and charged punters a premium of 14.5 percent on every wager.
