Growing competition is forcing eastern Connecticut land casino to consider online gambling and other changes.

Scott Butera, the chief executive of Foxwoods Resort Casino in eastern Connecticut says rising competition is forcing the company to consider online gambling and other changes.

Butera gave his opinions and thoughts on the issue during a web-based discussion Thursday with The Day of New London, pointing out that supply in the land casino business is clearly outpacing demand, creating increased competition, reports the Associated Press news agency.

Gambling has been legalised in Massachusetts and casinos in New York are taking a greater share of the market, he said, opining that additional venues and online gambling would have to be a part of Foxwoods' future.

Earlier this year the British online gambling group Sportingbet plc, which made its final exemption from US prosecution payment to the DoJ last month, was reported to be making good progress in collaborative negotiations with Foxwoods.

The British media reported that Sportingbet's talks with Foxwoods were at an advanced stage and involve the possibility of Sportingbet providing an online platform for intrastate poker and casino games over the coming months as part of a joint venture…clearly contingent on legalization.
