SPANISH ONLINE GAMBLING REVENUES UP 22.2 PERCENT IN Q3
 
Addition of online slots to Spanish-licensed online casinos boosts GGR.
 
Q3-2016 has seen improved results in the Spanish online gambling market, with gross gaming revenues rising 22.2 percent year-on-year to Euro 103 million according to figures released by the regulator, Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, which attributed the addition of slots to the online casino vertical as an important contributor.
 
Results from the online casino sector showed a 56.7 percent y-o-y improvement in GGR to Euro 28.4 million, with the new slots bringing in Euro 13.8 million of that total, and live dealer roulette also performing well.
 
Sports betting GGR rose 15 percent year-on-year to Euro 56.8 million on turnover up 19 percent, with in-play wagering contributing 73.4 percent of turnover and 53.2 percent of GGR. The betting exchange vertical is still young but managed a y-o-y rise of 1.8 percent to Euro 20.8 million, yielding revenue of Euro 120,000.
 
Online poker again disappointed, with revenue declining 4.3 percent to Euro 13.8 percent, with cash game stakes and revenue both down 9.7 percent compared to the same period last year, and tournament revenue up a mere 0.85 percent as buy-ins fell 8.6 percent.
 
Online bingo revenue rose 22 percent y-o-y to Euro 2.2 million in the third quarter.
 
The number of active registered players rocketed up 90 percent y-o-y in the quarter, with new player sign-ups rising 81 percent y-o-y.
 
The regulator reported that adspend by operators amounted to Euro 19.7 million in the quarter, an increase of 9.3 percent over last year, thanks mainly to marketing on football and Olympic events. Affiliate marketers were paid more – up 41.3 percent year-on-year at  Euro 4.8 million.
