Joint collaboration between Government and operators kicks off

Spain's first forum for responsible gaming has been hailed a success by State Secretary of Finance Miguel Ferre with participation of around 200 attendees.

The forum held late last week was designed to address the prevention of addictive behaviours, child protection and the rights of players.  It highlighted the establishment of the Spanish Responsible Gambling Advisory which is described as an integrated effort between government and operators "to enable greater effectiveness in minimizing the damage that gambling can cause to society".

The initiative launched by Secretary of State Social Services and Equality, Juan Manuel Moreno and State Secretary of Finance, Miguel Ferre, is aimed at ensuring uniform compliance of protection requirements for all gambling operators.

"Responsible gaming is certainly a task for all, regulators and operators in the sector and the rest of society," said Ferre.

Ferre revealed a registry of 1.01 million registered Spanish online players at the end of December 2012 who contributed Euro 1.359 million in the last quarter of 2012, up 24 percent from the previous quarter.
