RFID and interactive television deployed in new Irish product

TV production company Winmedia Ireland Limited has announced a new development in online poker streaming and live, in-running betting.

The company, which has been producing poker television programming for ten years, boasts that it conceptualized live poker for betting in 2003, long before the present technology was available. Now Radio Frequency Card Identification (RFID) and interactive Internet TV make it achievable.

Winmedia has live streamed the Irish Open and the Unibet Open poker tours, along with several 888 group projects which it claims has prompted a re-evaluation of live poker betting.

Several tours are now streaming hole cards with a delay of thirty minutes, but showing the hole cards rules out live, in-running betting.

Winmedia has developed a new and unique system with two elements which allows in-running betting:

Live – The live stream includes all graphics such as flops, standings, betting frequency of the players, odds (on a tickertape) and statistics. All information the viewer requires to place an informed bet at this stage is available – hole cards are not shown.

With the RFID Table Winmedia can show accurate chip counts every hand so the viewer can keep track of the players and produce a form guide for every player at the table. This information can be exclusively owned by the client.

Delayed – A second delayed stream with hole cards on continuous replay one hour after the live stream means viewers can see in full detail how hands played out and what each player had in order to satisfy their curiosity or build up player profiles.

"What's new and unique about this is that people can see the live game and place bets from the shuffle up and deal,” says Ian Langstaff of Winmedia. “By showing the hole cards later clients can gain more player information for the future and as a bonus the second stream keeps viewers online for an extra hour as they will all want to see exactly what happened.

"We can cover any poker tournament on our dedicated final table set and with our TV expertise can also produce a TV show for distribution as well as the live and delayed video stream.

“We can also supply a live and delayed perpetual poker stream from our secure studio as a betting /poker feed. The studio can be used for the final live table of online tournaments. The final 8 players can be sent to the studio and treated as VIPs as well as playing on TV.

“We have a panel of respected experts to act as stewards for all the broadcasts."
