Proposed Super Fight Between Jones And Silva

Wednesday November 7,2012 : UFC Betting – Proposed Super Fight Between Jones And Silva Would Not Live Up To Hype

All of the MMA talk on radio shows and in forums on the Internet in recent weeks has been centered on a proposed super fight between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Bones Jones and UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The prospect of two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world being pitted against one another has been something that UFC fans have dreamed about since the rumors of a potential super fight between Silva and UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre first emerged. However, while a bout between Silva and GSP would feature two of the best ever, both near the same point in their respective careers, and neither at what would be considered the peak of their talent level, a Jones vs. Silva tilt would not be the same. Jones’ youth, speed, ferocity, and stamina would allow him to not only end Silva’s dominant win streak, but to do it in dominant fashion. That is why a proposed super fight between Jones and Silva would not live up to its hype, and should be avoided altogether.

While Silva is still among the biggest names and a solid draw, there is nothing about his recent career that would suggest he could take out an opponent as talented as Jones. Chael Sonnen and the retired Stephan Bonnar were barely able to earn fights against Silva, and it could be argued that the latter was just a staged fight in the champion’s hometown that Bonnar never had a chance to win. Silva’s BJJ is still elite and his experience is an asset, but there is no way that his speed and strength is at a level that would allow him to be nearly as dominant against a fighter as strong as Jones.

At just 25-years old, Jones is already the youngest champion in UFC history and has the potential to become the biggest star the company has ever seen. Even Silva never dominated at such a young age, which is to say that the ceiling for Jones is even higher than any other fighter in the history of the promotion. Jones has both the raw power and ability as well as the technique, and the way he performs in the Octagon would provide a completely different scenario than when Silva was matched up against his last two opponents.

The much better option at this point would be the proposed fight against GSP, who is rumored to be interested in the bout that has been talked about for years now. St. Pierre is also much older than Jones and has been away from the Octagon for quite some time, and his lack of size will allow Silva to have the advantage in that area, which he would not have if he went up in weight class to fight Jones. A proposed fight between Jones and Silva would not live up to its hype and should be scrapped in favor of Silva vs. GSP once and for all.
