Svenska Spel online poker continues to grow

The results of a survey conducted by Concilia and Norstat which was commissioned by Swedish State monopoly Svenska Spel on the demographics and habits of Swedish online poker players was released this week.

The telephonic survey of 3 600 Swedish citizens revealed that 14 percent of online poker players do it to supplement their income, 4 percent plan on turning online poker into their sole career and two percent of those are already living off the proceeds of the internet game.

The average online poker player at Svenska Spel.se is male, married and 37-years-old, who typically plays the game for fun and spends around SEK 600 ($89) per quarter.  11.35 percent of Svenska Spel's players are female.

Further results reveal that there are more than 170 000 active online poker players in Sweden, who spend more time playing the game during the autumn and winter months.

The average bet across the active Svenska Spel player base was SEK 668 ($99.34) per quarter, an increase of SEK 39 ($ 5.35) since its inception in 2006.

"It is not about maximizing profit, without first of all giving our customers a secure and safe product that is entertaining", commented Martin Bengtsson brand manager of Svenska Spel Poker.

In a declining online poker market worldwide, Svenska Spel's poker product has bucked the trend with a steady increase in market share to the 34 percent it currently holds.
